I could see this interesting mix of buildings of different sizes and eras from my hotel room.
Light glimmering on the water at the 9/11 memorial. My hotel was right beside this - I could see it from my window.
Flight 93 commemorated at the 9/11 memorial. All the victims have their names inscribed around the pools.
Visitors to the memorial could place roses in the names of those commemorated.
This woman was gripping the edge of the memorial very tightly. Perhaps she had lost someone in 9/11.

The view from my hotel room one evening, looking out on the former site of the Twin Towers. The largest tower is the new One World Trade Center. I have to say, I found the airplanes flying over the towers quite disconcerting.

This man was being arrested in Chinatown. I'm not sure what his crime was - if any - but he was surrounded by 6 cops, and was very agitated.

Keep closed at all times. Or maybe not.
A very peculiar shop on the Lower East side. It almost looked like it was abandoned, but actually it was open, and there were people inside. The interior was stuffed with cardboard boxes, so much so that there was hardly any room for anyone to get in.
The window display in the shop. I liked the "We have vintage items" note - everything in the window looked like it had been there for 50 years.
Walking around the Lower East Side, I was standing outside this clothes shop just off Delancey Street when the owner came out to have a chat. He insisted - despite my protestations - that I come in and have a look at his jackets. I declined the one he's holding, it was a bit too 70s pimp for my conservative style. Nice cashmere jumpers, though. His family were Jews who fled Romania during the Second World War. This area is so interesting, definitely my favourite part of NYC.
One night at the 9/11 memorial it suddenly got very windy and oak leaves were floating in the air above the pool, bathed in golden light, almost like spirits of the departed.
On the Thursday it was Thanksgiving Day and I got to watch the Macy's Parade. This cop clearly thinks I'm up to no good.
